Dedicated Volunteers Needed
It’s a neighbor leaving the dinner table.
A parent kissing a sleeping child’s forehead.
A regular person becoming someone’s last line of hope.
Volunteer firefighting is quietly disappearing across this country. Not because the fires stopped. Not because emergencies slowed down. But because fewer people truly understand what it asks… and what it gives.
It’s 2:00 AM. You worked all day. Your house is finally quiet. You’ve barely closed your eyes when the tones drop.
Your baby cries. Your spouse sighs.
You still rise.
You don’t climb into a city-issued car.
You drive your own. On your own gas.
You pull on 85 pounds of gear and head into someone else’s worst day.
Sometimes… you’re the only one responding.
And you wait, hoping for one more set of hands.
Sometimes help is 25 minutes away.
Sometimes longer.
Sometimes too long.
This is what people don’t see when they say “it’s just volunteer.”
Behind every siren is a human being with a family, exhaustion, fear… and a heart that keeps choosing service anyway.
At Kirkland Fire Department, we are proud volunteers.
But pride alone doesn’t put enough boots on the ground.
We will train you.
We will certify you.
We will send you to every class you need to turn a volunteer calling into a career if that is your dream.
And if not, you’ll still gain skills, family, purpose, and a place where you matter.
